At the heart of eflrscnt is writer, director, and visionary, Tamia Edmonds. Driven to alchemize her Àṣẹ, Tamia's work is a deeply spiritual and emotional practice that uses the camera not just as a lens, but as a third eye. Each film is an offering, a recalling of identity, and a symphony of becoming.
Tamia earned a BFA in Film & Video Studies with a concentration in Screenwriting at George Mason University in 2020. There she wrote several short scripts, feature-length screenplays, and two television pilots; one of which was awarded Best Pilot at the 2020 FAVS Senior Showcase. During this time, she also developed skills in editing and commercial storytelling through a Video Marketing Internship at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts.
In 2021, Tamia began pursuing an MFA in Independent Filmmaking at Howard University, graduating in May 2025. While there, she immersed herself in every stage of production, from directing and producing to cinematography and production design. She interned with the International Screenwriters’ Association and the International Finance Corporation, working on multimedia projects focused on environmental advocacy and global storytelling. Her time at Howard culminated in the creation of a multitude of award winning narrative and experimental short films, three of which she directed (see works page).
Today, Tamia’s love for storytelling and connection to land and spirit continue to guide her path. As a Recreational Boating Captain with the Anacostia Watershed Society, she leads educational boat tours, supports volunteer restoration efforts, and contributes to film projects that highlight her relationship with the natural world.
